Jars Meze
Nestled in the charming streets of Bath, Jars Meze at 6 Northumberland Place brings a delightful splash of Mediterranean warmth to the city’s culinary scene. This Greek gem knows how to turn every meal into a celebration, serving up the kind of flavors that make you pause and savour. Whether you're popping in for a quick lunch, a solo dinner, or a long, lazy evening with friends, Jars Meze welcomes you with its vibrant personality and down-to-earth hospitality.
The restaurant’s menu reads like a love letter to Greek cuisine, with every dish crafted from traditional recipes and quality ingredients. If you're craving comfort food with character, the Moussaka is a must-try-layers of aubergine, potato, and seasoned meat, baked under a silky béchamel sauce that feels like a hug in every bite. Another standout? The Lamb Shanks Kleftiko, slow-cooked until fall-off-the-bone tender, drenched in aromatic herbs and served with a generous side of Mediterranean charm.
Sharing is at the heart of the experience here, and that’s where the Meze Selection truly shines. Expect a table covered in small plates like Spanakopita (crispy filo pastries stuffed with spinach and feta), Octopus grilled to perfection, and silky Horiatiki salads bursting with ripe tomatoes, olives, and tangy feta. Add in some Pita Bread, maybe a scoop of creamy tzatziki or hummus, and you're set for an unforgettable spread.
For fans of handheld indulgence, the Chicken Gyros Main or Pork Gyros offer that satisfying mix of juicy, marinated meat, fluffy pita, and crisp salad-plus, a side of French Fries that might just be better than any you’ve had before. There's also a tempting Meat Platter for the carnivores, ideal for those who want a bit of everything and aren’t shy about it.
Jars Meze doesn’t just stop at food. The drinks menu is equally impressive, with a great wine list featuring reds and whites that complement every bite. Whether it’s a crisp glass of Sauvignon Blanc or a bold Merlot, there's something to suit your palate. Prefer a cold beer or a signature cocktail? You’re covered. Fancy something non-alcoholic? The cranberry juice and Turkish coffee are worth noting-the former is refreshing, and the latter? Strong enough to spark a conversation.
Dessert lovers, save room. The Baklava is sticky, flaky, and just sweet enough, while the Rolo Gourounaki (if you’re lucky to catch it) adds a unique twist to traditional sweets. Coffee fans will be glad to know the restaurant also serves great coffee, perfect for pairing with a dessert or just sipping while people-watching from their outdoor seating area.
Service-wise, Jars Meze makes sure everyone feels right at home. It’s a place that caters to all: from solo diners looking for a peaceful meal to groups enjoying late-night food and happy-hour chatter. Vegetarian? Vegan? There are plenty of healthy options and plant-based dishes too. Accessibility is thoughtfully handled, with a wheelchair-accessible entrance and seating, though parking may require a short stroll.
Takeaway and no-contact delivery options are available if you'd rather bring the feast to your sofa. But really, part of the charm here is dining in-the vibe, the buzz, the clinking of wine glasses, and the rich aroma of garlic and oregano floating from the kitchen.
In a city full of historic sights and cozy corners, Jars Meze manages to stand out-not with flashy décor, but with its honest food, generous spirit, and the kind of experience that lingers long after the last plate is cleared.
Reviews
Lovely ambience set in the little cobbled streets of Bath. Recommend the aubergine maze dish- lovely service. Also has nice baklava and cakes though portions very large
The dips and meze dishes were great, we enjoyed them all! The main dishes were mixed though - the moussaka and stifado were nice, but the chicken orzo dish was not good. It was quite overcooked and was not restaurant standard - I’d avoid this dish. Please note, that additional discretionary charge is not a tip, which is a bit cheeky! There is mention of this going towards ‘additional costs’, and the staff only get a small percentage of this additional charge. Overall, I wasn’t amazed by this place - it was ok but I’m not in a rush to go here again.
We searched something to eat and found this Restaurant, The food was fantastic, the stuff / waiter very kind and friendly, really nice and quiet. They give us free dessert and so yummy
We love Greek food, and while visiting Bath, we came here with my partner because of the good reviews. We had high expectations for the food, but unfortunately, we’re a bit disappointed… The food just wasn’t tasty. The tzatziki didn’t resemble the one we’ve had in Greece or greek restaurants in UK. The olives in the salad —which are usually delicious—were inedible and very unpleasant. The hummus was actually quite nice, and the moussaka was correct, but the fried courgettes weren’t worth the price, and the bread we ordered on the side wasn’t good either. Sadly, we won’t be coming back. We were hoping for a delicious lunch, but we left disappointed Staff was very welcoming and nice.
Great service from start to finish. The food was incredible. Myself and my partner have had some great food as we have come for our short getaway in Bath. However, Jars Meze was exceptionally delicious and had great portion size. We ordered the Chicken and Pork Gyros. And also some desserts to take away. Excellent value for money and great atmosphere outside with the other customers. You will not be disappointed.
